During the year 2003 the management of the Almaty
international airport intends to invest $8 million in infrastructure
development of the largest regional transport hub.
Serious attention will be paid to servicing the
foreign cargo transit flights. As Alexander Gordeyev, Vice-President
of the Airport has informed, currently the Almaty air harbor is able
to receive all models of airplanes operating in the world. The airport
acquired a full complex of equipment for working with all airplanes -
about 400 technical units. It was demonstrated to journalists. During
past winter not a single airplane arriving to Almaty was rerouted to
back-up aerodromes due to unfavorable weather conditions thanks to
this equipment. Transit cargo liners of two of the largest air
companies - Israeli El Al and Dutch KLM started regular flights to the
southern capital of Kazakhstan. “Volga - Dnepr” and “Antonov” air
companies operate charter flights.
It is expected that the new passenger terminal will
be put into operation in August of 2003. |
