January 08, 2004

The private Afghan airline Kam Air has launched direct passenger flight connecting Kabul and Almaty on January 07, 2006.

A group of about 60 passengers representing the Government and business interests of Afghanistan have arrived with the first flight from Kabul. Their intention is to establish business and partnership contacts with Kazakhstan colleagues. Agybay Smagulov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kabul, accompanied the afghan officials and businessmen.

According to Khamidulla Faruki, the head of international chamber of commerce of Afghanistan, the businessmen from Afghanistan hope to establish contacts with Kazakhstan business interests and to present afghan markets to them. He added, that the opening of the direct air communication between Almaty and Kabul is the second important stage of the development of relations between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. The first step was the opening of Kazakhstan diplomatic representation in Kabul.

The Kan Air website advertises the air ticket cost for the flight Kabul – Almaty starting from 230 USD.

The airline plans to operate this flight on a regular basis, starting with one flight per week on modern Boeing–737-800 aircraft.
