The private Afghan airline Kam Air has launched
direct passenger flight connecting Kabul and Almaty on January 07,
2006.
A group of about 60 passengers representing the
Government and business interests of Afghanistan have arrived with
the first flight from Kabul. Their intention is to establish
business and partnership contacts with Kazakhstan colleagues. Agybay
Smagulov, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kabul,
accompanied the afghan officials and businessmen.
According to Khamidulla Faruki, the head of
international chamber of commerce of Afghanistan, the businessmen
from Afghanistan hope to establish contacts with Kazakhstan business
interests and to present afghan markets to them. He added, that the
opening of the direct air communication between Almaty and Kabul is
the second important stage of the development of relations between
Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. The first step was the opening of
Kazakhstan diplomatic representation in Kabul.
The Kan Air website advertises the air ticket cost
for the flight Kabul – Almaty starting from 230 USD.
The airline plans to operate this flight on a
regular basis, starting with one flight per week on modern
Boeing–737-800 aircraft.
