Air Cargo Summit Kazakhstan 2008
was held in Almaty from October 22 to October 24, 2008. The
Organizer of the Summit was Almaty International Airport acting with
support of Ministry of Transport and Communications and Akimat (City
administration) of Almaty.
That annual international cargo event is held for the third time in
Kazakhstan which gathers cargo industry leaders from the whole
world. Previous Summit showed good result, particularly Almaty
International Airport has got a number of new clients:
Turkish Cargo carriers - Turkish Airlines Cargo, ACT Airlines, KUZU,
and MNG came in Kazakhstan. Russian Airline Aeroflot-Cargo begins
operating of regular flights with periodicity up to 7 times per week
by the route Moscow - Almaty – Hong Kong and back, and by the route
Seoul - Almaty – Moscow as well, planning further increasing of
number of flights up to 12 landings per week.
Many carriers which fly through Almaty Airport significantly extend
their presence in the Kazakhstan market. For instance Cargolux
increased its cargo flights from 3 to 5 per week, UPS increased its
cargo flights from 5 to 6 per week, Lufthansa Cargo increased its
flights from 9 to 30 flights per week, and FedEx increased its
flights from 10 to 12 per week.
Air Cargo Summit 2008 was opened by Mr. Kubayev M.M., a Chairman of
the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The
following international speakers made a speech: Mr. Azer Samedov,
IATA (International Air Transport Association) Regional Manager, as
well as top managers of FedEх, Czech Airlines Cargo, Etihad Crystal
Cargo, Panalpina, Merk Cargo and others. Also there were
representatives of logistic companies and of international airports
among the Summit participants.
Within the framework of the Summit Almaty International Airport
presented to guests its projects:

The second runway;
-
Construction of new
international passenger terminal;
-
The second stage of multimodal
terminal;
-
Aviation aircraft technical
center;
-
New four-star Park Inn hotel.
The Summit participants highly
estimated the dynamic rate of development of Almaty International
Airport.
As per results of the Summit Almaty
airport expects increase in cargo traffic. At present time it is
planning to increase KLM Cargo and Cargolux flights. |
