The day of capital city of Kazakhstan- Astana State holiday In 1994, on a meeting of the Parlament of the Rupublic of Kazakhstan, President of the country Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed the idea of transfer capital city from Alamty to Akmola (former Tselinograd). In 1997, 20th of October decree about moving capital city to Akmola was signed, 6th of May of yaer 1998 Akmola city was renamed to Astana. 10 of June 1998 international presentation of new capital took place, since then this date was celebrated as birthday of Astana. Since 2006 celebration was transferred on 6th of July. In 2008, 26th of June a new adjustment for the" Amendment of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan" about holidays of the Republic of Kazakhstan " was signed. The amendment was designed to establish a new state holiday - called the “Day of the capital "- celebrated 6th of July, this day has a historical and cultural significance to the citizens of Kazakhstan. The celebration is intended to symbolize the achievements of our people in the modern history of Kazakhstan, which are related to achievement of state independence and the transfer of new capital to the geographical center of the country.

The capital of our city was built in the short time period by hard work of multinational people of Kazakhstan under the ledership of our President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Astana is one of the most beautiful cities around the globe due to its modern unique architecture. Nowadays, the name of our Motherland’s capital city Astana- became friendly and relative to the hearts of the citizens.
