The first aircraft landed at Almaty airport under the category III B

Today, January 11, 2012, at 9:15 am, aircraft of FedEx (USA), operating the flight en-route Shanghai – Almaty, landed under the category
III B at Almaty International Airport. The actual runway horizontal visibility was 150 meters, and vertical visibility was 25 meters.
FYI: The lighting equipment meeting the requirement of the ICAO III B and ensuring the taking-off, landing, and taxiing of aircraft in
visibility less than 200 m, but not less than 75 was, put into operation on December 19, 2011.
Today Almaty Internationally Airport is the first and the only one airport in the CIS having the category III B.
It should be noted that an aircraft can land under the category III B weather minima if the following three conditions are met: appropriate
airfield equipment, aircraft, and aircrew. Furthermore, the most qualified aircrews only can be approved for work in adverse weather conditions,
and they must have relevant certificates as well.
